Better experiences begin with better questions.
How can a website turn information into an experience that feels intuitive, engaging, and accessible? As part of my Design & Digital Media studies at Sacramento City College in 2025, I explored this question through a UI/UX redesign of the Strauss Festival of Elk Grove website.
The Challenge
Create a more intuitive digital experience that helps visitors navigate festival information through clear content, purposeful visual hierarchy, and responsive design.
The Process
Problem → Research → Wireframe → Design → Prototype → Result
I began by researching the audience to identify opportunities for improvement. I translated my findings into a design brief, developed user personas and scenarios, and mapped the experience through wireframes in Figma. Each stage helped connect user needs with informed design decisions.

The Creative Brief
The festival experience should begin long before the audience arrives. The website redesign aims to create a more intuitive, engaging, and accessible digital experience that allows visitors to easily discover performances, explore event details, and plan their visit.
2- Research
Creating Personas and Scenarios Through Research
Research helped me understand the needs, goals, and challenges of both the client and the website’s users. I developed three user personas—Lisa, the Family Planner; Peter, the Cultural Explorer; and Marie, the Event Organizer—each with a realistic scenario reflecting how they might interact with the Strauss Festival website. These personas and scenarios helped me identify user priorities, anticipate questions, and make informed UI/UX design decisions to create a more intuitive, engaging, and user-centered experience.

The Design
Building on the wireframes, I developed interactive desktop and mobile prototypes to explore navigation, page structure, and responsive layouts. My focus was to balance visual appeal with usability, accessibility, and a consistent experience across screen sizes.

Mobile & Desktop Prototypes
The Outcome
The project brought research, strategy, and interface design together in a user-centered redesign concept. The desktop and mobile prototypes demonstrate how thoughtful planning and purposeful design can make digital information easier to navigate.
From research to responsive prototypes, every design decision had a purpose: making the experience work better for the people using it.
